History of Pueblo Ham Club Inc.
The first amateur radio club in Pueblo was known
as the San Isabel Amateur Radio Association. It was formed in
the late 1930's and disbanded in 1949. Another early club was
the Pueblo Junior College Ham Club, organized in 1949. This
club, which held the callsign WØENA,
was active for many years, but also ultimately disbanded.
In 1950 the Pueblo Amateur
Radio Association was formed. Their callsign was KØTLF. Also in
the early 1950's The Steel City Amateur Radio Association, a
club with primary interest in the 10 Meter band, was organized.
The Pueblo Ham Club Inc. was formed in 1965 by a merger of the
Pueblo Amateur Radio Association and the Steel City Amateur
Radio Association. Since then the Pueblo Ham Club has been the
main amateur radio club in Pueblo.
Throughout the years since the
1930's, Pueblo amateurs under various club names have provided
communication and assistance to all.
In June, 1974, the Pheblo Ham
Club hosted the ARRL Rocky Mountain Division Convention, in
Pueblo.
Currently the Pueblo Ham Club
Members participate in many activities throughout the year,
including national Field Day and several other operating and
social events. The club publishes a monthly newsletter, the
Gridleak.
With our extensive repeater
system (see Repeaters section) the club provides a network for
VHF and UHF communication covering a wide area of Southern
Colorado. The club shares this repeater network with the ARES
and RACES organizations.
Recently, the Pueblo Ham Club
acquired a new club callsign, WØPHC, primarily for use during
field events. We also now have this website.
Periodically, the club conducts
VE testing for new hams and for those upgrading their licenses.
